Itinerary

Begin your journey early in the morning from Bishkek. The first stop is the Burana Tower, an ancient minaret dating back to the 11th century, located near the town of Tokmok. The tower is part of the ruins of the Balasagun city, once a major center along the Silk Road. Explore the site, climb to the top of the tower for panoramic views, and admire the nearby ancient balbals (stone statues).

– Continue your drive to Iskra village, home to a Dungan community, a Muslim Chinese ethnic group. A Dungan family will welcome you into their home for an authentic, homemade lunch. Enjoy the warmth of hospitality, learn about Dungan traditions, and experience the fusion of Chinese and Central Asian flavors.

– After lunch, continue your journey to the legendary Lake Ysyk-Kol. In the town of Balykchy, you’ll catch your first stunning view of the lake. As you drive toward Bokonbaev, enjoy panoramic views of Issyk-Kul on one side and the majestic Tien Shan Mountains on the other.

– Close to the evening, you’ll take a short visit to another canyons Fairy-Tale Canyons (also known as “Skazka” Canyon), located on the south shore of Ysyk-Kol lake. This unique canyon is famous for its vibrant red, orange, and pink rock formations, which have been eroded into fantastical shapes that resemble castles, towers, and creatures from a fairy tale.

– After exploring the Fairy-Tale Canyons, you’ll continue to your guesthouse in Bokonbaev for a relaxing evening. Upon arrival, you can unwind and enjoy a hearty dinner at the guesthouse.

Before you go

  • Meals provided are traditional Central Asian cuisine. Vegetarian options are available. Please inform the tour manager of any dietary restrictions or allergies.
  • Credit cards are widely accepted in most towns across the country. However, we recommend carrying some cash in local currency (Kyrgyz Som) for purchases from local vendors. An amount of 10 USD per day should be sufficient for most personal expenses.
  • Internet access is generally available in cities and towns, but may be limited or slower in remote mountain areas. Consider purchasing a local SIM card for better coverage during your trip. Recommended operator: MEGACOM
  • Kyrgyzstan uses 220V electricity with Type C and Type F plugs (European-style round plugs). Be sure to bring the necessary adapters for your devices.
  • It’s advisable to have travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and any adventure activities.
  • The official languages are Kyrgyz and Russian. While many people in urban areas speak basic English, it is helpful to learn a few basic Russian or Kyrgyz phrases for easier communication in rural areas.

We recommend not exchanging USD at the airport as the rates are generally lower. For better exchange rates, you can exchange currency at banks or official exchange offices in Bishkek. Your tour guide will be happy to assist you with currency exchange during the tour.
