Burana Tower

Burana Tower is a historic minaret located near the town of Tokmok in northern Kyrgyzstan. It dates back to the 11th century and was part of the ancient city of Balasagun, a major center on the Silk Road.

The tower originally stood about 45 meters tall, though earthquakes over the centuries have reduced it to around 25 meters. Built from fired bricks, its cylindrical shape tapers toward the top, showcasing intricate brickwork patterns typical of Central Asian architecture. Visitors can climb a spiral staircase inside the tower for panoramic views of the surrounding Chuy Valley.

The site also features ancient tombstones, petroglyphs, and remnants of Balasagun, offering a glimpse into Kyrgyzstan’s Silk Road history. Burana Tower remains one of the country’s most important historical landmarks, blending cultural heritage with stunning natural surroundings.
