Jety-Oguz Gorge

Jety-Oguz Gorge, located about 30 km west of Karakol on the southern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul, is one of Kyrgyzstan’s most iconic natural attractions. Its name means “Seven Bulls” and comes from the striking red sandstone cliffs that rise dramatically from the valley, resembling a row of powerful bulls. Nearby stands another famous formation, “The Broken Heart,” a heart-shaped rock associated with local legends of love and loss.

The gorge is covered with lush forests of Tien Shan spruce, alpine meadows filled with wildflowers, and rushing mountain rivers. Visitors can hike deeper into the gorge to reach panoramic viewpoints, waterfalls, and the beautiful Jety-Oguz health resort known for its mineral springs. In summer, traditional yurts appear in the valley, offering a glimpse into nomadic Kyrgyz culture.

With its blend of bright red cliffs, green forests, and mountain scenery, Jety-Oguz is a perfect destination for hiking, photography, and relaxing in nature. It is easily accessible from Karakol, making it a popular day trip for travelers exploring the Ysyk-Kol region.
