Kok-Moinok Canyons

Kok-Moinok Canyons, located within the dramatic Boom Gorge in northern Kyrgyzstan, are a hidden gem known for their winding labyrinths of red and yellow sandstone. Carved over centuries by wind and water, the canyons form narrow passages, sharp ridges, and unusual rock formations that create a landscape both mysterious and photogenic. Their vibrant colors and layered textures make the area look like an open-air natural museum.

The canyons are easily accessible from the main Bishkek– Ysyk-Kol highway and require only a short walk from the road. Once inside, visitors can explore a network of small trails that lead through twisting corridors and up to viewpoints overlooking the rugged walls and the surrounding mountains of Boom Gorge. Because the canyons are lesser known compared to other attractions in Kyrgyzstan, they offer a peaceful, uncrowded experience.

Perfect for short hikes, photography, and geological interest, Kok-Moinok Canyons provide a striking contrast to the steep granite slopes of the Boom Gorge and showcase the diverse natural beauty of Kyrgyzstan’s landscapes.
